About a year and a half ago I blogged about Freckleface Strawberry here. It was a book that I knew a student in my first grade class would connect with and love...he did. The character: Freckleface Strawberry is likable and real. Her strongest trait is how she puts her fears aside and faces tough situations.
In the first book, she bravely finds her inner beauty and in the second book she bravely faces Windy Pants Patrick, the big, fast throwing dodgeball bully at Early Bird (latch key). Freckleface is like other kids who go to school early, love to play and create coping skills to deal with fears that turn out to be not such a big deal after all. In fact, she also figures out that the one kid she was afraid of likes to play jungle gym monkeys too! A great book for talking about how we often have more in common than we think!
