TIME

I am having one of those I- do-to many-things-so-I don't-feel-good-about anything days. I find this happens to me every once in a while because I spread myself too thin. I am feeling this today as I rushed through an important (unplanned) meeting this morning, hurried through diagnostic testing with my first graders, booked out of school to teach religious education (forcing me to skip a baby shower for a friend of mine at school) and now am flying through writing this as we speak ( but I needed to write away my stress). I feel like I am just juggling the role of friend and even teacher today as I skimmed the surface with others. The snow day off yesterday left me remembering how much I enjoy being a mom and just a mom some days. It reminded me of summer (despite the fact that there is a blanket of snow covering Dublin). Why...because I used this day as a true day off just as if it were summer. We slept in, ate whatever, decided to go to a movie, the kids played with a neighbor unexpectedly and then Curly (my 4 yr old who loves to cook) and I threw together dinner. Yesterday I felt good about being a mom because I had time to be a mom. Today I didn't have time to be anybody. Skimming the surface doesn't work for me...it also doesn't work for my readers and writers. They need time to jump in, swim around and time to play in the water. Tomorrow I am all about trying to find the precious, unlikely, hard -to- find gift of TIME. Could daylight savings be affecting me?

Hi Katie! I decided to give this blogging thing a try and your entry today inspired my first response. I am not a mom yet so I can only imagine trying to find balance with that piece but I felt spread pretty thin today, as well. I am rarely at my desk (or the "big desk" as we call it) but today I was trying to dig myself out of the pile on my desk when one of the student's said, "Why are you sitting at your desk so much today?" Thank goodness for her because right then, I stopped digging and remembered that she (and the rest of the kiddos) is what's important. All the other "stuff" will get done (eventually) but I can never take back the moments I waste not being a teacher/learner with my students. Thanks for letting me know that I am not alone!!

Abby-
Hi! I am so glad you commented! Isn't it crazy how overwhelmed and stretched to the limits we can be yet still function? I hope you find time to get what you need to get done!! Now that you've been reading blogs, I hope you will consider the writing side. This blogging stuff is right up your alley!

Katie,
Living totally parallel lives today! I didn't feel effective at anything! I don't know if it's Daily Savings or Progress Reports. Both in the same weekend was a killer!
I'm hoping life is more normal for everyone tomorrow.

Oops! See what I mean -- it was one of those days...
I meant Daylight Savings (NOT Daily Savings) :)

First, I just want to say that we love your blog. Daylight savings has us all in a tailspin as well, and the snow certainly would bring me to the tipping point! I just try to keep reminding myself that one day soon thinks will begin to thaw and sprout!
