I want my K kids to read and write and explore at home and sitting down to a worksheet isn't my idea of exploring. I have tried my best to make this happen in the classroom however some students end up not delving deeper at home. I needed some sort of accountability. I have used parent signatures ("Johnny explored math links on your website." and student reflections ("I did x, y, and z because..." "I learned that...") Any other ideas for accountability?Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13431223003621121154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1973476422033091912.post-33612818881708672122011-03-20T05:34:17.973-07:002011-03-20T05:34:17.973-07:00Katie,

Unfortunately, many of us still measure learning by boxes ticked on pieces of paper - it's much harder to "measure" events and conversations. Yet this sort of connected learning is what I would love for all our students.BookChookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06230711251425187241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1973476422033091912.post-65970691225668149702011-03-11T06:35:18.572-08:002011-03-11T06:35:18.572-08:00Katie--Thank you for this amazing post and for mak...Katie--Thank you for this amazing post and for making me think even more about the importance of connected learning! I had a parent say to me once when I was teaching, "You'll understand when your a parent."<br /><br />I can't remember what the issue was about, but I remember being pretty upset and offended. Now, I know the parent was probably right. Being a parent does give a different perspective and an important perspective for a teacher.<br /><br />All of your ideas you presented in your blog post - I would love as a parent. I think I will start by introducing a book with a trailer and then linking to our blog, or VoiceThread. Currently, we use Shelfari as a way for the kids (and parents) to have a link to the books we share. The trailer seems like a great addition! <br />Thanks!Deb Frazierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02357198767241625023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1973476422033091912.post-52921443684776483892011-03-10T07:18:45.772-08:002011-03-10T07:18:45.772-08:00I'm with Mandy.
